Frequently asked questions

The platform

How does Terrenas Taxi work?

Terrenas Taxi is a transport request platform for getting around Las Terrenas and getting there: taxis, airport transfers, private drivers, buses and guaguas, group shuttles, moto-taxis and more. You send a request with your departure point, destination, date and WhatsApp number, the only required detail. Our team receives it, messages you on WhatsApp, contacts suitable carriers with your agreement and confirms the price and availability. You decide. No account and no online payment. More details on the how it works page.

Is my request a booking? Do I pay online?

No. Sending the form does not book any vehicle: it is a request, which does not bind you or any carrier. Nothing is booked until you accept the proposal we send you on WhatsApp and the carrier confirms it. Sending a request is free, needs no account, and no payment is made on the site: the form never asks for card details. The ride is paid according to the conditions agreed with the carrier, or with us for a “Terrenas Taxi service”; ask how, when and in which currency before you accept.

Who contacts me, and why is only WhatsApp required?

Our team contacts you, not a carrier, on WhatsApp and during its working hours; an immediate pick-up cannot be guaranteed. We only ask for your WhatsApp number because that is how we confirm the details, price and availability with you in writing, even if you travel with a foreign number: enter it with the country code. Everything else is optional and can be added later in the conversation. Don't use WhatsApp? Write to us through the contact form and leave your email address.

Are the carriers Terrenas Taxi employees or partners?

No. The carriers on the site are independent businesses and professionals: they are not Terrenas Taxi employees or platform partners, unless their listing carries the “Platform partner” label, which we only use when a real agreement exists. Services offered directly by the site's operator are labelled “Terrenas Taxi service”. Being in the directory is neither a recommendation nor a guarantee: each carrier is responsible for its service, and the price and conditions are confirmed before you accept.

Prices

How are prices shown?

Each fare shows its date, how it was checked and its unit: per vehicle, per person, per hour or per day, one way or return. When known, the vehicle's capacity, any extras and whether tolls are included are shown too. A fare that could not be checked for 7 days is labelled “To be reconfirmed”; after 30 days, it is removed from comparisons. Currency conversions are indicative. The amount shown is neither a quote nor a confirmation of availability: we confirm the price on WhatsApp before you accept.

Why are some prices shown as “On request”?

Because we have no published, checked fare for that route, or because the rules do not allow a reliable calculation: vehicle capacity not stated, more passengers or luggage than the capacity, child or return fare not published, fare too old. We would rather say so than make up a price. Send your request with the number of passengers, your luggage and the time: with your agreement, we contact suitable carriers and give you a confirmed price.

What is the difference between a per-person and a per-vehicle price?

A per-vehicle price covers the whole vehicle for the trip, however many people travel, within its capacity. A per-person price is multiplied by the number of passengers, and children may have a different fare. We never show a per-person price as a per-vehicle price, or the other way round. If you enter the number of passengers, the site shows an estimate with its calculation; if a detail is missing, such as capacity or the child fare, the price stays “on request”. Check the luggage capacity too.

Do prices include tolls?

It depends on the carrier. Some routes use toll roads, such as the Autopista del Nordeste between Santo Domingo and Samaná province, whose stations and rates are published by the Fideicomiso RD Vial. When known, each fare says “tolls included” or “tolls not included”; otherwise it says “tolls: to be confirmed”. Before accepting, ask whether the price includes tolls: our team will confirm it. Toll amounts may change.

Transport

Can I travel at night?

It depends on each carrier. We have found no official information on taxi availability at night in Las Terrenas or on night surcharges. When a carrier publishes a night surcharge, we show it with its fare. Give the exact time in your request and send it early: our team handles requests during its working hours and cannot guarantee an immediate pick-up. If you arrive at night, arrange your transfer before you travel, and always agree on the price before getting in.

Airport pick-up: what if my flight is delayed?

In your request, give the airport, your flight number and your expected arrival time. With your agreement, we pass the flight number on to the carrier so they know when you land. Waiting conditions, such as the waiting time included or a charge for longer waits, depend on each carrier and must be confirmed before you accept. If your flight changes, tell us on WhatsApp as soon as possible. More on the airport transfers page.

Can I ask for a child seat?

Yes, mention it in your request with the number of children and their ages. Not every vehicle has one: availability, and any extra charge, depend on the carrier, and our team confirms them before you accept; if no suitable seat is available, we tell you. According to INTRANT, Law 63-17 of 2017 sets rules for carrying children in vehicles: rear seats, and a child seat or booster depending on age. We have not found how they apply to taxis. Rules may change: check them before travelling.

Can I travel with surf or kite boards and bulky luggage?

Yes, if the vehicle has room. In your request, give the number of suitcases, boards and bikes, and their size in the message, for example the length of the boards. This helps us find a suitable vehicle, such as a minivan. Some carriers may charge extra for bulky luggage or per board: we show it when it is published and otherwise confirm it with you. Note that, according to Rough Guides, guaguas have little room for luggage.

Can I rent a car without a driver?

Not on this site: Terrenas Taxi only deals with transport with a driver. To rent a car, quad, motorbike or buggy without a driver in Las Terrenas, visit our sister site rentlasterrenas.com, which specialises in vehicle rental. If you would rather not drive, a private driver by the hour or by the day may be an alternative: send us your request and we will confirm the options.

Safety

What should I do in an emergency? Any safety tips?

In case of an accident or immediate danger, call 911: this site and its forms are not an emergency service and are not handled in real time. To travel safely, agree on the price and currency before getting in, do not pay a stranger in advance and check that the vehicle matches the one announced. On a moto-taxi, according to INTRANT, Law 63-17 of 2017 requires an approved helmet for both the driver and the passenger; rules may change.

How do I report a problem with a carrier?

Use the report a carrier page: price not honoured, different vehicle, inappropriate behaviour or wrong information. Your contact details are optional; leave them if you want a reply. The report reaches our team, who review it and may contact the carrier, correct its listing or remove it. For an error in a fare or on a page, use the contact form. If you are in danger, call 911 first.

Personal data

What do you do with my personal data?

We use it to answer your request and we do not sell it. Only your WhatsApp number is required. We only pass on to a carrier what the ride requires, and only with your agreement, given through the optional box or on WhatsApp; your phone number and email are not passed on without it. You can withdraw your agreement, access your data, correct it or ask for its deletion at any time through the data rights form. Everything is explained in our privacy policy.

Carriers

I am a carrier: how do I register?

Registration is free: fill in the registration form. Our team checks your information and contacts you before publishing your listing. We publish your trade name, services, routes, vehicles and capacities, languages, fares and approved photos; never your phone number, WhatsApp, email, website, social media, exact address or plates. No request is guaranteed: we only offer you one if it matches your service and the client agrees. More details on the for carriers page.
