Travelling from Las Terrenas to Santo Domingo, Santiago, Punta Cana or Cabarete in a private car with a driver spares you any changes and drops you at the door. These are long trips, so pin down timing, luggage and tolls before accepting a price.

<h2>What a long-distance ride covers</h2>
<p>A door-to-door road trip between Las Terrenas and another city or region of the country, in a private vehicle with a driver: Santo Domingo, Santiago, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Cabarete or Samaná town. <h2>Distances and journey times: be careful</h2>
<p>Distances in the Dominican Republic can be deceptive: the official tourism website warns, for example, that travelling overland between the Punta Cana and Puerto Plata airports can take up to seven hours. For most trips from Las Terrenas we have not found reliable published journey times, and the ones that exist sometimes contradict each other. So we do not give unsourced figures: the carrier gives you an estimate when confirming, based on the itinerary, traffic and stops.</p>
<h2>Roads and tolls</h2>
<p>According to the official tourism website, Route 7 (the Santo Domingo–Samaná highway) links the capital with the Samaná peninsula, and the Boulevard Turístico del Atlántico (Route 133) leads towards Las Terrenas. The Fideicomiso RD Vial publishes the rate at each toll station; those on the Autopista del Nordeste are listed on our <a href="/en/santo-domingo-to-las-terrenas/" rel="noopener">Santo Domingo – Las Terrenas</a> page. The amount depends on the itinerary and the vehicle category, so always ask whether tolls are included.</p>
<h2>What to put in your request</h2>

<li>exact pick-up and drop-off addresses;</li>
<li>preferred date and time, and whether you must arrive by a set time (flight, appointment, check-in);</li>
<li>passengers, children's ages and a child seat if needed;</li>
<li>suitcases, boards, bikes;</li>
<li>stops along the way;</li>
<li>one way or return.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Price: unit and extras</h2>
<p>Check whether the price you are offered is per vehicle or per person (a seat in a shared transfer, for instance). Ask what it includes: tolls, fuel, waiting, stops, bulky luggage, and which currency you pay in. We know of no official published fares for these trips; the ones we show on each route page state their source, date and unit.</p>
<h2>Children and safety</h2>
<p>According to INTRANT, Law 63-17 requires children up to 12 to ride in the back, in a child seat or on a booster depending on their age; for a long trip, ask for the seat in your request. Agree the price before you set off, never pay a stranger in advance, check the vehicle is the one announced and, in an emergency, call 911.</p>
