<p>With a transfer, you pay for a ride from one point to another. With a private driver, you book time: a few hours or a whole day during which the driver takes you somewhere, waits while you visit or run an errand, and carries on with you to the next stop.</p>
<h2>When it makes sense</h2>
<ul>
<li><strong>Day trips</strong> around the peninsula, for example to <a href="/en/las-terrenas-to-el-limon/" rel="noopener">El Limón</a>, <a href="/en/las-terrenas-to-samana/" rel="noopener">Samaná</a> or <a href="/en/las-terrenas-to-las-galeras/" rel="noopener">Las Galeras</a>.</li>
<li><strong>A beach day</strong>: Cosón in the morning, Playa Bonita in the afternoon, back whenever you decide.</li>
<li><strong>Shopping, appointments and errands</strong> with several stops and bags.</li>
<li><strong>Looking after visiting family</strong> during their stay.</li>
<li><strong>Arriving by sea</strong>: according to Diario Libre, the Samaná Bayport cruise terminal at Arroyo Barril started receiving ships in December 2025; if your ship calls there, tell us the arrival time and when you must be back on board.</li>

<h2>What to put in your request</h2>
<ul>
<li>start time and rough duration (a few hours or a full day);</li>
<li>itinerary and planned stops, even if provisional;</li>
<li>number of passengers, children's ages and whether you need a child seat;</li>
<li>the language you would like the driver to speak;</li>
<li>preferred vehicle type (saloon, SUV, minivan).</li>

<h2>Pricing: by the hour or by the day</h2>
<p>Because you are hiring a driver's time, the price is agreed by the hour or by the day, not per trip. We know of no published rate for Las Terrenas that we could quote, so the price is on request. Before accepting, check:</p>
<ul>
<li>how many hours are included and the cost of each extra hour;</li>
<li>whether fuel and tolls are included;</li>
<li>how waiting time between stops is counted;</li>
<li>the currency and when payment is due.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Rules worth knowing</h2>
<p>According to INTRANT, the operating licence for tourist-taxi companies requires, among other things, vehicles no more than seven years old, air conditioning, GPS, a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher. For children, Law 63-17 provides for rear seats, a child seat up to age 6 and a booster up to 12. Our directory does not certify licences, insurance or equipment: ask the carrier. <h2>Staying safe</h2>

<li>Get the price, duration and what is included confirmed in writing on WhatsApp.</li>
<li>Do not pay everything upfront to someone you do not know.</li>
<li>Check that the driver and vehicle are the ones announced.</li>
<li>In an emergency, call 911.</li>
