<h2>Santa Bárbara de Samaná</h2>
<p>Aerodom describes Santa Bárbara de Samaná as the capital municipality of Samaná province, to which Las Terrenas also belongs according to its municipal development plan. According to BNamericas, the Boulevard Turístico del Atlántico project, opened in October 2011, rehabilitated the road linking Nagua, Sánchez, Samaná, El Limón and Las Terrenas.</p>

<h2>How long does it take?</h2>
<p>We have found no distance or journey time published by a reliable source between Las Terrenas and Samaná, so we do not give a figure. The carrier gives you an estimate when confirming.</p>
<h2>Tolls</h2>
<p>No official source says which tolls are paid on a trip to Sánchez or Samaná. Ask whether the price includes them.</p>
<h2>By guagua</h2>
<p>Guaguas are privately run minibuses that you flag down at the roadside; Rough Guides advises asking where they are going before getting on and notes there is little room for luggage. We have not been able to verify the stops, frequencies or fares between Las Terrenas and Samaná; if we confirm them with a dated source, they will appear in the <a href="/en/bus-guagua-schedules/" rel="noopener">bus and guagua schedules</a>.</p>
<h2>From Samaná: the bay and cruise ships</h2>

<li>The Rough Guides guidebook describes a passenger ferry between Samaná and Sabana de la Mar, across the bay, but whether it runs today is not confirmed: read our <a href="/en/boats-ferries-samana-bay/" rel="noopener">boats & ferries</a> page before relying on it.</li>
<li>The Samaná Bayport terminal at Arroyo Barril started receiving cruise ships in December 2025 (Diario Libre). If you arrive by cruise ship and want to go to Las Terrenas, send a request in the other direction with the time you must be back on board.</li>
